Album and binding terms

Layflat

A premium binding where pages open completely flat at 180°, with no gutter break across the spine. Ideal for panoramic spreads and the industry standard for wedding albums.

Hardcover

A rigid cover wrapped in premium materials (photo, designer fabric, signature leatherette, or acrylic). Durable and premium-feeling.

Softcover (Economy Edition)

A lightweight, flexible cover printed with your photo. Budget-friendly and great for casual albums or multiple copies.

Spread

Two facing pages of a photo book viewed together. A 40-page book = 20 spreads.

Gutter

The centre fold area between two facing pages. Layflat albums have no visible gutter.

Page count

The number of single sides in your book. Each spread is 2 pages.

Dust jacket

A removable paper cover that wraps around a hardcover book for added protection and design.

Print quality terms

DPI / PPI

Dots per inch / pixels per inch — a measure of image resolution. Higher means sharper prints. We recommend 300 DPI at print size for the sharpest results, with 150 DPI as the practical minimum.

GSM

Grams per square metre — a measure of paper thickness and weight. Higher GSM = thicker, more premium paper.

Bleed

The extra area beyond the trim edge that gets cut off during binding, ensuring no white borders on photos that extend to the edge.

Aspect ratio

The width-to-height proportion of a photo (e.g. 3:2, 4:3, 1:1 square). Important when fitting photos into specific page layouts.

Printing technology

Silver Halide

A professional photo printing technology used by Pro Lab for prints on Fujifilm Crystal Archive paper. Delivers superior colour accuracy and 75+ years fade resistance.

Giclée

A premium fine-art printing method using pigment-based inks on archival paper, producing exceptional detail and 100+ years longevity. Ideal for fine art, photography portfolios, and gallery work.

Inkjet (12-colour)

Advanced multi-colour inkjet printing for large-format prints, offering wide colour gamut and smooth gradients up to 44x100".

Cover and finish options

Glossy finish

Shiny, vivid colours and high contrast. Reflective.

Matte finish

Non-reflective, subtle, fingerprint-resistant, elegant.

Lustre / satin

A balance of glossy and matte. Popular with photographers.

A crystal-clear acrylic panel on the front of premium photo books and albums.

Signature cover

Premium vegan leather or rexine cover with optional embossed names and dates.
