Pro Lab photo books are available from 20 pages up to 120 pages, with each page representing one side of a spread. This guide helps you choose the right page count for your project.
Page count vs spread — the key distinction
- Page = one side
- Spread = what you see when the book is open (2 facing pages)
- A 40-page book = 20 spreads
- A 60-page book = 30 spreads
Most customers think in spreads when designing, but order in pages. Our editor shows both counts.
Page count guide
Page Count | Photo Capacity | Best For |
20 pages (10 spreads) | 10–30 photos | Small events, quick gifts, Instagram collections |
30 pages (15 spreads) | 30–50 photos | Vacations, birthdays, baby showers |
40 pages (20 spreads) | 50–80 photos | Standard weddings, week-long travel |
60 pages (30 spreads) | 80–150 photos | Large weddings, family yearbooks |
80 pages (40 spreads) | 150–250 photos | Comprehensive albums, year-in-review |
100 pages (50 spreads) | 250–400 photos | Epic documentation, multi-event years |
120 pages (60 spreads) | 400+ photos | Maximum capacity, multi-year compilations |
How many photos per page?
- 1 photo per page — high-impact, gallery feel (premium for weddings, portraits)
- 2–3 photos per page — balanced storytelling pace
- 4–6 photos per page — collage style, more memories per book
- 7+ photos per page — avoid; photos become too small to enjoy
Layflat album page limits
Layflat albums are limited to 20–70 pages (10–35 spreads) due to the thicker binding required for the 180° flat opening.
Pricing impact
Additional pages beyond the included page count are charged per extra page. The base price includes 20 pages; each additional page is added at checkout. See exact rates at prolab.in/photo-books.
Recommendation
When in doubt, go slightly larger than you think. Customers often regret cramming photos into too few pages more than they regret having a slightly longer book. You can also use the Pro Lab AI Smart Editor — it suggests optimal page counts based on your photo upload.
